This wall art poster is the first in a series of screen printed posters to mark the launch of ca’lyah’s Tranquebar Edition designed by Boris Berlin. The design of the wall art is a collaboration between Calyah’s founder Nigel Majakari and Buenos Aires based graphic artist Sofia Noceti.

The Story

The silhouette of the Tranquebar chair. The iconic chair design by Boris Berlin is the first object in the Tranquebar Edition. The design journey follows a craft cooperation between Boris Berlin, cabinet maker Sofia Juul of PP Møbler in Denmark, and Calyah’s craftsmen in Chennai, South India.

Rich colours evoke a feeling of exotic places far away. The screen print provides a brown texture that captures the essence of the well trodden earth and sawdust that lines the floors of the rural carpenters workshop. The burst of orange reflects the memorable sunsets the designer experienced during the project in Tamil Nadu, South India.
